The Emerging Biosecurity Landscape in Southeast Asia

The NTS Centre convened a panel, “The Emerging Biosecurity Landscape in Southeast Asia,” on 12 June 2026 at the Global Health Security Conference, held in Kuala Lumpur from 9 to 12 June 2026. The panel featured presentations by Professor Mely Caballero-Anthony, Head of the NTS Centre; Mr Julius Cesar Trajano, RSIS Research Fellow; and Ms Jeselyn, Research Analyst.

The three presentations were based on the following reports: “Emerging Biosecurity Landscape in Southeast Asia,” “Advancing BWC Confidence-Building Measures in Southeast Asia: Leveraging ASEAN’s Platforms and Mechanisms,” and “Convergence of Biotechnologies and Artificial Intelligence: Implications on Biological Security.”

Together, the three reports formed a coherent panel discussion on the evolving biosecurity landscape in Southeast Asia, examining regional risk perceptions, opportunities for strengthening confidence-building measures, and the implications of emerging technologies for biological security. The panel’s insights were well received by representatives from the ASEAN Secretariat’s Health Division and may inform ongoing biosecurity and health security initiatives in the region.
