Episode 4: Low-Carbon Energy Transition in Southeast Asia

New dimensions of conflict in the Middle East, and disruptions to the Strait of Hormuz, have impacted oil and gas prices, demonstrating the risks of long-term dependence on fossil fuels, and the need for states to grow their renewable energy capacities and supply chains. In Southeast Asia, the ASEAN Power Grid (APG) looks to develop a regional interconnected electricity grid system. We speak with Dr Mirza Sadaqat Huda, Senior Research Fellow (Climate and Sustainability), ODI Global Singapore, to unpack the current state of energy integration in ASEAN, the challenges faced by ASEAN member states in the shift to renewables and look beyond the region to other best practices of regional energy infrastructure.
