This chapter discusses the current trends of human trafficking and institutional responses to address problems of human trafficking in Asia. It assesses the effectiveness of regional mechanisms at the state or inter-state level and the roles of non-state actors in addressing human trafficking. It argues that, while the Asian region does not have a dominant regional organisation to combat transnational coordination, the region has developed formal and informal legal frameworks to manage trafficking, leading to greater awareness of the problem among the governance actors including civil society, media and governments.
