BIPSS in collaboration with IFES in Bangladesh recently organized a Panel Discussion on ‘Impacts of Hate Speech and Disinformation on Democratic Participation’ at Amari, Dhaka. The moderator of the panel discussion was Major General ANM Muniruzzaman, ndc, psc (retd.), President, BIPSS. In the expert panel, Lasanthi Daskon, Deputy Country Director, International Foundation for Electoral System, Bangladesh, and Shafqat Munir, Senior Research Fellow, BIPSS & Head of BCTR were the speakers. The discussion was on the effects of disinformation in real life and democracy and the need to verify fake information disseminated in the news media. A wake-up call was addressed to incorporate youths in democratic participation where there will be also awareness of the negative impact of hate speech and Disinformation.
Academics, Diplomats, and International Organization Officials, Government Officials, Defense Personnel, Journalists and youth were present among the participants.
